This article addresses the criticism of Maurizio Lazzarato to Judith Butler’s conception of the performative constitution of identities. In order to problematize said criticism, the article makes a genealogical reading of this concept in the postulates of Judith Butler and, thus, recovers the notion of performativity developed in John L. Austin’s Theory of Speech Acts and its subsequent critical reception of Derrida’s work.
