[marron]Abstract[/marron]
In ‘Tierschutz und Ethik’, Jahr underlines the importance of ethical sentiment, empathy, compassion and support for animals and plants as a part of moral and social obligations humans owe each other. Animal ethics and ethics among humans are not in conflict, on the contrary: they complement each other. While Kant reserved his moral imperative to humans only and kept it formal, Jahr’s imperative encompasses all living beings and their interactions in order to present a flexible and pragmatic imperative, which takes the struggle for life as an essential part of all life into account.
